Each piece is shaped by Florentin and his team in his Cumbria workshop - using traditional joinery, hand tools, and intuitive craftsmanship - no templates, no shortcuts.
It’s slow, expressive work that transforms reclaimed timber into functional, one-off works of art.
Description
The Raynham Chair
Reclaimed | Handmade | One-of-a-Kind
"I was once part of a freight platform in a 1920s Indian rail depot – solid teak and sal wood, worn smooth by decades of steel wheels, sun, and monsoon. Now I’m a dining chair – bold, upright, and still bearing the colours of my working past."
Each Raynham Chair is handmade from reclaimed sal and teak wood, salvaged from decommissioned freight platforms and loading bays close to Pune in Western India. These dense tropical hardwoods were chosen for their strength and durability – and still bear the deep patina of time: sun-faded grain, oil staining, old bolt holes, and traces of industrial paint.
The seat and backrest are framed in matte black powder-coated steel – a subtle nod to the chair’s utilitarian origins. The silhouette is clean and modern, but the materials speak of long journeys and hard use.
Each chair is finished by hand in our Cumbria workshop, where Florentin and his team work with care and restraint – sanding just enough to preserve the story.
120 Raynham Dining Chairs were made by Florentin and his team.
This is furniture with grit and history. Made to be used. Made to last.
Please note: Every Raynham Chair is unique. Variations in tone, surface texture, and timber character are intentional, and part of what makes each piece distinctive.

Care instructions
Our reclaimed wood pieces are made to last - and they don’t ask for much in return.
- Wipe with a soft, dry cloth regularly to remove dust.
- Avoid harsh cleaners or polishes - a damp cloth with mild soap is all you’ll ever need for deeper cleans.
- Keep out of direct sunlight and away from strong heat sources to protect the natural finish and avoid warping.
- A touch of natural wax once or twice a year will help nourish the wood and enhance its character.
These chairs have already lived long, eventful lives. A little care will ensure they continue to for decades to come.
