Each piece is shaped by Florentin and his team in his Cumbria workshop - using traditional joinery, hand tools, and intuitive craftsmanship - no templates, no shortcuts.
It’s slow, expressive work that transforms reclaimed timber into functional, one-off works of art.
Description
The Borley Nightstand
Reclaimed | Handmade | One-of-a-Kind
"I used to sit in the back rooms of a 1950s Ontario post depot – a workbench stacked with parcels, pigeonholes and hand-stamped letters. My maple frame held firm through decades of daily graft, while birch and ash drawers opened and closed thousands of times over. Now I’ve been refitted and reimagined – still dependable, but a little quieter – ready to serve at your bedside."
Each Borley Nightstand is handmade from solid reclaimed Canadian maple, yellow birch, and white ash – all sourced from mid-century government sorting facilities in Ontario. Maple provided the durable core, while birch and ash were often used for drawer fronts and runners, prized for their stability and smooth grain.
You’ll notice traces of that working past in the timber – in subtle tone shifts, dents, or drawer edges worn ever so slightly smooth. These aren’t flaws; they’re honest signs of a life once lived.
The Borley is built by hand in Cumbria by our master craftsman, Florentin. No veneers, no filler – just solid wood construction, fitted with two deep drawers and four sturdy legs. It’s a compact piece, but made with quiet purpose.
Florentin and his team have made just 75 Borley Nightstands.
This is furniture that remembers where it came from – made to be used, and made to endure.
Please note: Each piece is unique. Variations in grain, tone and finish are a deliberate part of each Borley’s story.
